Chanderpaul passes 22,000 First Class runs

Shivnarine Chanderpaul completed a first half-century for Derbyshire on the opening day of their first home match of the new LV County Championship season against Nottinghamshire.
The West Indies star was 63 not out from a total of 197-8 at tea but it had largely been a day of toil for the home side after losing the toss for the third game in a row and being sent in to bat in testing conditions.
Stuart Broad, making a rare county appearance, took 4-51.
Skipper Wayne Madsen went to the final ball of the fifth over, though he could count himself unfortunate.
He was well forward and hit high on the pad but the lbw decision was given to Broad and he went for nine at 23-1.
Billy Godleman was given a life on 10 with the score 28-1 when he was dropped at third slip by Ed Cowan off Andre Adams but Adams did get a wicket in the 17th over when Wes Durston was lbw for three at 49-2.
Godleman was caught behind for 31, trying to pull out of the shot, to give a second wicket to Broad, who then drew Dan Redfern into a loose drive and had him caught at gully for four at 67-4.
Derbyshire lost Ross Whiteley and David Wainwright shortly after lunch, both to Harry Gurney, to fall to 75-6 but Chanderpaul and Jon Clare sparked a revival.
They put on 96 in 24 overs, with Chanderpaul reaching his 50 off 79 balls with seven fours, before Broad struck again, Clare edging to first slip for a fine 49.
Tom Poynton soon followed for four, caught behind off Gurney at 181-8, but Palladino (9 not out) joined Chanderpaul through to tea. (WICB)
